I think this activity book was created before they expanded the guidelines of who could be euthanized. The guidelines are wider now. Data from Health Canada says in 2024 about 5.1% of all deaths in Canada were the result of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). That's about 1 in 20 people. They are looking to widen the guidelines to include mental illness, poverty, etc. as a reason for MAID.
I read an article of a woman with severe allergies and chemical sensitivities who was living in government subsidized housing. She was having an issue with her apartment and called to see if she could be moved to another place. They gave her the option of MAID. Another account I read was a man whose retirement benefits did not cover his monthly expenses and he was challenged to be able to afford rent. He was considering MAID as the only viable option.

What happens when addicts become ‘clean’ and start volunteering in their local food bank or church community? What does the cost-benefit analysis show then?
